New Product - Chōchin

Hosoi Ichiba is very proud to announce a small yet beautiful addition to our product lines. These are Chōchin (提灯), the traditional Japanese floating lights originally used for the ceremony of Tōrō nagashi (灯籠流し), performed on the last night of the Obon (お盆) festival - the 500 year-old festival that honours the spirits of the departed, which has more recently become a family reunion holiday where people come together to return to ancestral family places. The Tōrō nagashi was originally meant to guide the spirits of the departed back to the other world. As you can see, these are beautiful floating lights that you set on the water.

Our product consists of a set of lights that float serenely in a circular pattern. Obviously they look best when rezzed on a body of water. They are transferable, so could make an interesting gift for a friend. They use the new Windlight "glow" property. Please visit the Ichiba to see them, out on the ocean by the Torii (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Virgin%20Island/107/39/34/), or within the walls of the market (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Virgin%20Island/186/208/30/)

If you wish to stay true to tradition, "Kyu Bon" (Old Bon) is celebrated on a different date each year, on the 15th day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar. But we feel you could celebrate it any time you like.
