Lecture on Kabuki

In our continuing series of "edutainment" at the Hosoi sims, we would like to let everyone know about our next event.

Kabuki(歌舞伎) is the famous Japanese form of dance-drama dating back to the 17th Century. Translations can be the more literal "sing-dance-skill" or "to be out of the ordinary". It is well-known for its male actors, who traditionally play the parts of both men and women. However, Kabuki was founded by a fascinating woman named Okuni. Today, she is remembered as a mere legend.

On Friday, 11-Jun-2010 at 4pm SLT our own Akiko Omizu will be presenting (and performing!) a lecture on Kabuki. The story will be told in both words and pictures.
So please come and learn how one of Japan's most famous and colorful male art forms was begun by a woman.

One thing that our presentation will definitely not be is "ordinary"! We look forward to seeing you there!
