Mizuekai 2012

Konnichiwa!

It is our honor to invite you to our special autumn performance of the year: Mizuekai 2012!

Based off of the real life Mizuekai dance in the Geisha district of Miyagawacho Hanamachi. Each year, around this time, the Maiko and Geiko of this special Hanamachi gather in the Miyagawacho Kaburenjo for a collection of autumn-themed performances along with the regular display of the Manzai dance and Miyagawa-Kouta.

Taking this tradition, Shiraito-no-Taki Hanamachi used this inspiration to bring to you not only the two famed dances, but also a vibrant combination of 7 dances dedicated to the theme!

This year’s theme focuses on a predominant literary and traditional art theme of the Seven Flowers of Autumn. As an Okiya, we attempted to keep the traditions, but allowed for creative freedom, elaboration in the sets and props.

The dance, taking place October 14th at 4pm SLT, will be in Hosoi’s famous Kabuki Theater in the center of Shiraito-No-Taki Hanamachi’s village. We do hope you will honor us with your presence in what might be this year’s biggest Geisha event!
